Types Of LED High Bay Lights To Choose From
When you have a space with a high ceiling, you'll need to use high bay LED lights. Otherwise, you may find that your lights do not fill in enough of the space. There are several types of LED high bay lights you can choose from and each is ideal for a different situation.
Waterproof LED Lights
If water is present, you'll want to use a wet location LED light. The wet proof LED lights are protected from moisture and dust. They are best used under covered ceilings. Another option is a vapor tight LED. These are also rated against water and dust. They are protected against the hazardous vapors that might exist in some buildings. These are found most often in cold storage, refrigeration and any indoor locations that might have water.
Traditional Round LED Lights
If you are looking for an LED that has a traditional shape, you'll want to use a round LED bay. They are more efficient than the traditional halide lights. They have LED chips under their fixture. They have a separate heat sink for the fixture. It has a driver for better cooling to prevent the LED from overheating. Fortunately, LEDs are cooler than traditional light sources.
UFO LED Lights
Besides round LEDs, UFO LEDs serve a similar function. They are mounted to a pendant or are suspended by a chain or hook. They come with a driver that is on top of the fixture and come with a heat sink. One of the advantages is that they can have several accessories attached to them. These include prismatic reflectors and aluminum reflectors. Pay careful attention to the mounting height when installing a high bay LED, especially when you are suspending them rather than mounting them.
Linear LED Lights
Linear LED bays are another alternative to round LED bays. They replace the type of lights that use fluorescent tube lamps. These are most often used in warehouse aisles and are also used in big box retailers. They're mounted to a junction box for surface mounting or are mounted to a hook or chain that allows for the LED to be suspended. When you are adding a linear LED, it's important to make sure that the lumen output of the linear LED is similar to the output of the light that you're replacing. Fortunately, given the popularity of LED lights, there are an endless number of options available.
